Shiv Sena plans to contest in more than 300 seats on the 2017 UP polls

New Delhi, Aug 04: Emboldened by its performance in Bihar elections where the Shiv Sena got more than two lakh votes, the party now plans to contest in more than 300 seats the 2017 UP polls.
The party has already started shortlisting candidates for the same. An interview of probable 40-odd candidates was held at the residence of party MP Chandrakant Khaire in Delhi.

“The party will be contesting in more than 300 seats and we have already finalised names of 30 candidates,” Party media cell in-charge Vineet Chaudhary said.
Reportedly, Shiv Sena is aiming to make a dent in BJP’s right-wing vote bank.
Shiv Sena is aiming to make a dent in BJP’s right-wing votebank. Speaking to TOI, Sena’s distrct president in Bareilly and candidate from Cantt constituency, Pankaj Pathak, sounded confident of defeating the sitting BJP MLA Rajesh Agarwal.
“The BJP has done nothing for the Hindus who voted them to power at the centre. In Bareilly Cantt, areas like Madinath, Subashnagar and Shanti Vihar, which have dense Hindu population, are the most underdeveloped parts of the city.”
“We had contested in 80 seats in Bihar on our own. And in most of these seats, we got more votes than what the BJP or its allies got. In UP, we are confident of winning several seats,” he added.
