Villipuram August 3:A minor girl from Villupuram, who was fighting for life after she suffered 80 per cent burn injuries in a recent stalker attack, died at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in Puducherry in the wee hours on Wednesday.

It was on Saturday afternoon, the girl was attacked by a 30-year-old man who set himself and her ablaze for spurning him.

While Senthil, the stalker, died at the spot, the girl was admitted in JIPMER with over 80 per cent burn injuries.

Senthil who lost a hand and leg in an accident had attacked her at the house when she was playing with her younger brother.

According to police officials, Senthil who entered the house with a can of petrol had first locked the door from inside.

Both children were alone at home. He poured petrol on himself, set fire and hugged the girl too.

It was their neighbours who rushed to the spot hearing cries and rescued them.

U Vasuki, national vice president of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in a statement said: “Our heart really goes out for the young girl who was murdered by an obsessive person Senthil who died in the process of burning her.

He is no more. But his action is highly condemnable. What right he has to take away the life of a precious girl just because she did not reciprocate his feelings? Treating women as properties is a patriarchal value.

If i don’t get her, nobody else should get her seems to be the trend.”
