Mamta Banerjee on war footing; determined to change name from West Bengal to Paschimbanga after having to wait six hours to meet PM

Delhi, July 25: Didi, as the CM of West Bengal Mamta Banerjee is commonly known was in no good mood after being made to wait over six hours to meet PM Narendra Modi at the inter-state council meeting.
The meeting was called together was for different states to address their state specific issues with the Prime Minister.
However, states are usually called on basis of their names which are listed in alphabetical order. This meant that West Bengal’s turn came towards the end of the session and this miffed CM Mamata Banerjee who had to wait over six hours for their turn and was disappointingly given only 12 minutes with Mr Modi. The Trinamool Supremo on her return decided to mend things by fishing out the long pending issue of name change that had been left on the back burner after coming to power.
‘West Bengal’ name change from the former to proposed ‘Paschimbanga’ was first discussed during an all party meeting after the TMC came to power in 2011. Consequently, the proposal was sent to the Centre following the meeting.
In 2014, the state was informed that a Bill ‘West Bengal (Alteration of Name) Act, 2014’ would be tabled in parliament and that a final call would be made post that. However, reality remained that the issue remains idling and CM Mamata Banerjee has issued her government officials with strict orders to ensure that the issue is sorted once and for all this time.
