Iconic interviews of deceased TN CM Jayalalithaa with Simi Garewal and Karan Thapar
NEW DELHI,Dec7: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa gave many interviews during her career, a 1999 interview with Simi Garewal and a 2004 interview with Karan Thapar are particularly memorable.
Jayalalithaa, who was buried with full state honours today, was a strong, charismatic leader – and these interviews highlight these two aspects of her personality.
One of the highlights of the Simi Garewal interview was the moment when both the talk show host and her guest broke into song. The tune they chose was ‘Aaja Sanam,’ from the movie Chori Chori.
The Karan Thapar BBC Hardtalk interview, of course, is famous for its final moments, during which Thapar tells Jayalalithaa it was a pleasure talking to her. He offers his hand for her to shake.
Jayalalithaa responds, folding her hands: “I must say it wasn’t a pleasure talking to you. Namaste.”
She then removes her microphone, gets up, and walks away without another word.
