Bengaluru, July 30: The capital city of Karnataka has come to a standstill due to the State wide bandh called by several organizations on Saturday, July 30.

Agitators who are protesting against the verdict of Mahadayi water tribunal, held protest rallies across the city, especially near Majestic, Shantinagar, Gandhi statue and other places, reports newskarnataka.com.

In most of the areas, shops and other business activities have been shut down voluntarily. The public transport system including city buses, auto rickshaws and others are also affected. Many schools and colleges have declared holiday due to the bandh.

Agitators gathered in key areas and shouted slogans against State and Central government. Sa.Ra.Govind, Narayana Gowda and other pro Kannada activists have taken part in the rally.

All the cinema houses are shut and commercial areas like Gandhi Nagar, Commercial Street, MG Road and Brigade road have donned a deserted look.

Police have detained more than 30 people as precautionary measures so far. The government has deployed KSRP and other police forces near sensitive areas.

Although the strike is peaceful so far, some stray incidents like forceful shutting down of shops and interrupting public transport has been reported near Jayanagar, Banashankari, Sheshadripuram and other areas.

So far the bandh had affected normal life in the city and is expected to ease down by afternoon.
