Being fed up with his conduct, woman strangles husband while sleeping, gets life imprisonment

Bengaluru, August 25: Principal District and Sessions Judge K.S. Bilagi on Tuesday sentenced Prashanti (23) to life imprisonment on finding her guilty of murdering her husband.
According to the charge-sheet, Prashanti loved Harish Nayak and the two married. They lived in a rented accommodation in Hosahuklu in Venoor police station limits. The police said that the two had frequent quarrels and Prashanti was fed up with her husband’s conduct, reports thehindu.com.
On June 20, 2014 Prashanti strangled her husband when he was asleep. She called Harish Nayak’s sister Sharada saying that her husband don’t wake up.
On the complaint of Sharada, the Venoor police arrested Prashanti. Inspector B.R. Lingappa filed the charge-sheet.
While ordering life imprisonment, the judge ordered Prashanti to pay a fine of Rs. 1 lakh. Of this fine amount, Rs. 98,000 should be paid to the three-year-old child of Prashanti and Harish Nayak.
The District Legal Services Authority has been directed to pay compensation to the child under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme.
