Beed, Maharashtra, July 25: Two Dalit youth were allegedly beaten by 25 people in Beed, Maharashtra for overtaking a vehicle on Sunday, reported news agency ANI.

Both of them were left with bruise marks on their backs and are undergoing treated at a local hospital. Deputy Superintendent of Police of Majalgaon area Hari Balaji told ANI that the probe into the incident was being carried underway but none of the accused have been arrested so far.

According to the complaint, they attacked the Dalit youth after they saw a picture of Bhim Rao Amdedkar on their vehicle.

Police, who are yet to arrest the accused in the case, have registered a complaint against over 25 unidentified persons.

“They had marks on their body that showed that they were beaten with belts. There were for four others with these two boys but since they haven’t given us their statement, we don’t know the full story yet. We have not caught the accused yet. A case filed under Prevention of Atrocity Act has been registered,” said Assistant Superintendent of police in Majalgaon, Hari Balaji.

The incident comes amid nationwide outrage over the flogging and shaming of four Dalit men for skinning a dead cow in Gujarat on July 11.

A complaint has been registered under the atrocities act. Earlier on Sunday, the reports of a Dalit family being beaten up in Maharashtra over rumours of beef had also surfaced. There have been a string of videos going viral on the Internet which show the violence carried out against the Dalit community in different parts of the country.

The community has been protesting in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and other areas after a video of four Dalit youth being beaten and dragged by a car for skinning dead cows had surfaced on social media. Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati was also abused by a BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh following which the party supporters and Dalit protesters took to the streets.
